Canon Post - Production Diary
Getting images organised
The first task I did was finding images I wanted to use from previous holidays I have been on. As I had already gotten the pictures it meant that I did not need to go and get any of them. But I did go and get one of the sunsets at Sunderland Roker beach. I took this picture in case I wanted to use it for people to see how nice the sunset is in my local area. The way I organised and figured out which pictures to use was to see what I wanted to create and how I wanted everything to be layered out by using a flat plan.
The creation process of magazine front cover design one
I made a flat plan design of what I wanted to include and where I wanted everything. This really helped me as it meant that I knew that I might have some space to add some more designs that would make the front cover interesting and this is what I actually did.
Even though I did not plan out some of the most important parts of the magazine on the flat plan sheets it did not restrict me to add different components to my front cover designs or my print advert.
I made my design with the app "Canva" and I used a magazine blank template which was A4. I knew that this would have been a good option as it mean that I would have had the right size for what magazine covers used. I made notes on the bottom of my flat plan to help me identify what type of pictures I want to use and what type of font I wanted to use and other information that would have helped me during my creative process.
I had a vision of what I wanted to create and what I wanted to include and where I want them to be positioned. This helped me as I already had the idea in my head I just needed to put it into digital form.
Summation of progress and good practice controlling production
problem-solving
After making my first draft of the magazine front cover designs and print advertisement I realised that I haven't added a lot of information about my client and what I am promoting on the magazine front cover. I realised that I need to add more information about the different aspects of the Canon camera and why that type of camera is the best one to use over different camera brands. I could also add how to get these shots by using professional equipment such as tripods.
I also realised that I did not have a "strapline" which is "photo plus the canon magazine".
I realised that my first draft of my designs did not look like a magazine cover I added in some straplines and some text that makes it one hundred times better. As I did this it means that some things were moved out of position from what was on my flat plan design. I feel like I did this for the best as it meant that it looks more professional.
Making changes that needed to be changed
I made the changes that would make my designs look professional for the front covers and print advert. I used a theme that I have seen before with Canon and this was for the strapline. For the print advert, I used the brand name Canon for the strapline for people to realise that the print advertisement is still about Canon as well.
Using pre-production planning
I created a resource list, personnel list, risk assessment, location release, location scouting form, and contributor forms. I added all of the information that I needed as I am the only one who is working on this project. As I already had the pictures it meant that I based the "risk assessment" form based off what could have happened when taking pictures and what I would be in my surroundings. I also did this for the equipment part of the forms as I wrote down what I used for getting these pictures.
As I already had the pictures that I needed to create this design it meant that I did not need to shoot anything new. This meant that I did not need a shooting schedule but I made one in case I needed to use it but it was also useful for structure. This help me to become organised with my time management and what I needed to do during the week.
