NHS Better health - Interpreting the Brief
Client Research Brief
With the new launch of the NHS better health campaign, they have asked us to promote their campaign and topics to a wider audience of 16 to 20-year-olds'. The topics we can choose from are 'losing weight', 'quitting smoking', 'getting active' and finally 'losing weight'. They have advised us to pick two topics from this selection. They want us to promote their campaign and topics through 'radio advertisement', 'TV advertisement', 'advertising or promotional material' which includes leaflets and posters known as print.
The type of promotional advertisement we have chosen is 'TV advertisements' and 'radio advertisement'. This is helpful as some people prefer to listen to information as they can channel it better and could be more likely to participate. Some people get inspired by watching advertisements that apply to them, which would make them more likely to participate in this campaign. Some people do not mind how they get their information as they would either listen to both or watch the advertisement which can positively impact their life.
The reason why they want us to promote their 'Better Health campaign' is to encourage young people and their families to participate in one of these programs. The 'Better health campaign' will encourage families into eating healthy meals and understanding what meals are healthy and how to make them for themselves. They can also encourage families to be active as a family to make it more fun, and enjoyable and allow them to work out together at their own pace. The main goal of this whole campaign is to improve the health of young people. The NHS has loads of different apps for your phone and techniques that can help you improve your health, no matter, if you are interested in participating or participating, will make you more motivated as there is no judgment.
My thoughts on the NHS better health campaign is I think it is a great campaign and a lot of young people would benefit from participating. This is a great way to get people from all over the UK to overcome their battle with their health issues, as there are loads of different subjects people can get involved in which can give them information on how to overcome their issues. The NHS better health campaign has loads of information and techniques that people can use.
The potential constraint that is involved in this campaign is the variety of resources they offer. They offer four main components 'lose weight', 'quit smoking', 'get active', and 'drink less'. These are probably four major topics the NHS has to offer with its Better Health campaign. But the issue with the selection is that people might want help with the opposite of losing weight, as an eating disorder is an issue in young people between the ages of 16-20.
The constraints that people might have and might need to overcome. Time is an issue for a lot of people, and this can stop people from doing sports as they might not have enough time. People either work full-time or part-time, and people who even work part-time might not have enough time to exercise because they have their families to look after, which could be the reason they work part-time. There are a lot of barriers to people not wanting to participate in sports and some of the reasons are time, their fitness levels, money, and access to gyms.

Everyone who will be working with us will have diverse backgrounds, reasons to get into fitness, and what type of fitness they want to participate in. Knowing what their purpose is to help with participating in activities and different NHS campaigns is important if they are doing the “lose weight” program but they want to become more active in general, the “get active” campaign is more suited to them. The type of people we will be working with would be students and young adults that could have a part-time job or full-time job. Knowing who they are and what they do for a living or what they are studying is important as this could also help them become active.
The vision of the clients is to get them healthy but in a step-by-step way that they can follow and enjoy. They can do this by setting little aims to reach the end goal. The end goal would be to lower the number of times they contact the NHS about any concerns. This is to improve how independent they are about their own health and how they will deal with some of the concerns as they could be able to figure it out by becoming more active or changing their diet.
If they have participated in any previous campaigns, you could ask them questions, for example, did it help you? Was it right for you? and did it help you improve in what you wanted to improve? Finding the answers could help as you would be able to understand how to help them based on their answers.
Knowing how different people operate to become active is important as people would like to exercise in diverse ways which can help them get the results that they want. Knowing what people can and cannot participate in is also important as this could be medical issues or just their preference.
The type of audience I would have would be diverse. This is because people would want to get active in different steps. People could want to become active gradually over time and some people would want to do hard-core training from the minute they start the program. Identifying people who do this type of training is key as you can give individual, group, or class tasks that they can do to progress in the way they want to.
The product and focus of getting people to be active is patience. There will be some people who have come to this program who were unsure about participating. This would mean that they might need more motivation and encouragement to get involved. Bringing different equipment for them to use can also give them more motivation and willingness to participate if some of them enjoy watching a particular sport, they could enjoy playing the sport too.
Research into the subject area
There are two separate ways you can use “get active” facilities at home you can either do “couch to 5k” which is a mobile phone app that allows you to use recourses such as when you go out and do a run the app will tell you when to run and when to walk, and these can be from well-known people example Sarah Millican. Some of the features include a flexible program and a time limit that tells you how much time you have left. Many unique features can help people get active by running and walking. This way people can run at their own pace and for the time they would like to.
Another way they can use the “get active” facilities at home is “active 10” which is also another mobile phone app that tracks all your walking and how many minutes you were brisk. The more times you were brisk the more rewards you would get. This app promotes goals and helps you progress and motivates you more. This app makes walking more enjoyable and makes you want to go on more walks longer so you can get rewards and see how far you have progressed.
We can learn from these NHS campaigns and different health campaigns that they are finding separate ways to make you look after your health more enjoyable and encouraging. They are making their print, audio, and tv advertisements eye-catching to make you realise that this is important and they are producing these advertisements in different forms as people will either listen, read, or watch something to encourage them. We can learn that they are giving us information that is up-to-date evidence about health. They are telling us how we can keep ourselves healthy by making slight changes to our diet, and counting calories that will not take much of our time.
There is more to the “get active” campaign that can help people reach their goals. There are loads of different programs that you can participate in that is under “get active” on their website. 3 different ones are promoted on their website “Couch to fitness”, “This girl can” and “Join the movement”. These ones are free, which means that if you cannot afford to buy a program or join any sessions these are great ways to get active, which will help you to focus on various parts of fitness.
They have ‘introductory offers’ that you will have to pay for, and these can either be membership or weekly, these can change depending on if you stick to that program for longer than a year. These can also be great programs to participate in as they will make you work with different people in different facilities.
There are also options to do homework - out. They have linked different videos that focus on various parts of your body. There are “10 minutes of cardio workout”, “strengthening workout”, and “warm down stretching” that you can participate in from the comfort of your own home.
There is not just getting active they care about also care about your mind too. There is a mind plan where you must answer 5 questions and there are tips to deal with anxiety, and stress and how to improve your sleep. This means if you document how you feel from the beginning of this course and keep on documenting on your “mind plan” it could show you how much your mental health has improved.
The get active campaign also tells people “9 simple tips to move more” this is an effective way for people who are wondering how they can increase their number of movements overall. They tell you tips on how to motivate yourself by giving yourself rewards, for example going on a long walk when you come back you can watch episodes of your favourite Netflix series. Tells you how to get into good habits which you could stick to, and you could add in good habits that have been working for you or ones that you have learned being on this program.
The last essential information that is on the “NHS get active” website is “getting active with a disability” this is showing that if someone who is disabled feels like they will not be able to exercise because of their disability then they are wrong as you can! This is a fantastic way to raise awareness of this and to get a diverse amount of people participating in their get the active program.
